That is what I think when I see the morning news these days. Whether it’s political, legal, or social it seems the news, is all bad, which sometimes leaves me unsettled.
I did wonder, though, what “unsettling” might mean to other people.
The free dictionary.com says “to shake or weaken (beliefs, feelings, etc.); cause doubt or uncertainty about.” Yes, I think I’ve used the correct phrase. Do you agree?
Of course, I do understand that bad news sells,
so it seems to be what the news organizations tend to present. My dad suggested that there must be a good news radio or TV station and that if there wasn’t we should start one. So I did some research.
Check out http://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/. While they mention sad things that are going on, they have discovered the good that is coming from them.
ANNNDDD… in a search for radio stations, TV station, and newspaper featuring predominately good news, the Good News Network was the only thing popping up. WOW! Unfortunately, it is only an online organization, but they have just put out a free “app” so you can get it on your mobile devices.
I am in a Bible study group that studied the book of Revelation.
Chapter 6: 1-8, sure sounds like the four horsemen of the apocalypse are already riding. Here are a few of those verses….
2 And I saw, and behold, a white horse, and he that sat thereon had a bow; and there was given unto him a crown: and he came forth conquering, and to conquer.
4 And another horse came forth, a red horse: and to him that sat thereon it was given to take peace from the earth, and that they should slay one another:
5 … and behold, a black horse; and he that sat thereon had a balance in his hand. 6 And I heard as it were a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, A measure of wheat for a shilling, and three measures of barley for a shilling; and the oil and the wine hurt thou not.
8 And I saw, and behold, a pale horse: and he that sat upon him, his name was Death; and Hades followed with him. And there was given unto them authority over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with famine, and with death, and by the wild beasts of the earth.
· conquering, and to conquer
· they should slay one another
· lack of sustenance with exorbitant prices
· death and hell having authority
Doesn’t this sound like things that are happening in the world today?
And yet, there IS still hope.
There ARE still good people among us. We may have to look a little harder, but goodness and good news abound. “Seek and you shall find.” Jeremiah 29:13
