There is so much violence, sickness, desperation, and sadness in the world, so many people we know with loved ones who have passed on recently.
My family has been blessed we have three of our four parents around and hope we never have a child or grandchild go before us. We have had friends pass away “before their time.” We have many friends and family members who have experienced the loss of a loved one recently.
It has been my observation that grief takes the same path of feelings of sadness and loss, leaving you to wonder how to fill the void that now exists in your life. That seems to be where the path branches.
I have seen people go down the path of bitterness that seems to eat them up and swallow them whole.
I have seen people sink into the pit of depression that they just can’t seem to get out of.
I have seen people rejoice and be thankful for the time they had with the person they lost.
I’m not sure what it is that drives a person down the path they end up on. It may be choice, but I think most times, they discover they are on a sad path and don’t really know how to turn around and come to the path of happy memories, even though that’s where they desire to be.
I do know it helps to talk to someone, whether that is another family member, a dear friend, or a counselor. Emotional pain hurts and it helps to talk about it. I didn’t say fight about it; as I know some families that have had bitter battles within their family after a loved one dies. That’s not healthy. Perhaps at that time a mediator can help smooth the waters. It’s so sad to see families break off ties with each other after a loved one has passed on, due to the depths of their grief or bitterness.
I hope that everyone can come to the path of rejoicing and being thankful that they had whatever time was allotted to them to be with their loved ones. It seems the best way to find peace with the loss.
Love your loved ones well. Make sure they know they are loved. The world is a crazy place these days and you never know when your time is up.
