Life is More

Updated: Mar 29, 2023

Money is not the most important thing.

Did I just say that? Yes, I did.

How many people go through their entire life making money and not making a life?

Life is not about

  • How much money you have

  • How big your house is

  • How fancy your car is

  • What school your kids go to

  • How many gadgets (toys) you own

  • The brand of clothing you wear

  • Jewelry

  • Shoes

  • Pets

  • Knowledge

Of course, people need to have enough money to have the basic necessities (food, shelter, clothing), but people’s definition of lifestyle varies greatly. We see in the news all the time about the dirt-poor person who has generously helped someone else. We have also heard about the filthy-rich person who is absolutely miserable. Life is not about the money.

It isn’t all about you. Did I just say that? Yes, I did.

I know, when we are children, and maybe even teens, we think the world revolves around us. I know I think my grandkids are pretty special, and they know I think that, too. However, at some point most people come to the realization that the world involves other people, and we’re okay with that, because we are a social society. Most people like other people, so we welcome them into our world. Unfortunately, not everyone discovers that they are not the only human on earth and they tend to be rather self-absorbed and selfish. That is not how we were meant to live.

Life is about caring for each other, helping each other up when someone stumbles and falls, maybe even reaching out to catch them before they hit the ground. We should encourage each other to make positive changes, when necessary. We can make connections and introductions for people who don’t know each other yet, but might benefit from knowing each other. There are many more ways to live a fulfilling life. Be intentional about seeking ways to care for others.

Jesus put it like this… John 15:11-13 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

So, you see – it’s not about the money. Life is more.
