I used to be very involved in Toastmasters. At one particular meeting, a member was asked if they see the glass half empty or half full. His answer was so terrific that I remember it vividly. He told us about a friend of his who believed the glass was neither half empty nor half full, but ALL full. How cool is THAT?!
When asked if the glass is half empty or half full, there are actually more than two choices.
You have the obvious…
½ empty
½ full
And the not so obvious…
Matrix version… there is no glass
The realist…it is both half full and half empty
The glass is full
Who cares
How can the glass be full? Hmmmm. What else is in the glass besides what you are seeing? Think about it, it’s all around you all the time. Yes…. AIR!
Air is not seen, but it is a “thing.” It can even be “bottled,” so to speak… oxygen. Air is real, and it is in the glass. So, the glass is actually full.
If you take that just one step further, you could even say the glass is overflowing (with air). How great is it to not think of the glass as half anything but overflowing?!
Much like some past visual social media questions “Is the dress gold or blue” and “is the cat going up or down the stairs” (to which my response to both was “who cares”) the glass being half empty or half full, or full to overflowing is a matter of how you choose to look at things.
Do you have a half empty (negative) outlook, a half full (positive) outlook, or a full to overflowing (grateful and blessed) outlook?
I used to be a half empty person; as I matured I became a half full person, but now that someone has made me aware of the full to overflowing option, that is how I would describe myself. I wasn’t aware that option even existed, but now that I am… that’s me!
Things change, life changes, and you have the choice to be empty, full, or overflowing. You have now been made aware that there is another option to that much asked question. Which answer will you choose to make when someone asks you if the glass is half empty or half full?
